This isn't a blank bag we've bought in and dressed up with a bit of leather. \u003cstrong\u003eWe make the ED1 from scratch in our workshop\u003c\/strong\u003e, starting with heavyweight cotton canvas straight from the roll.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe canvas is cut, constructed and then given our own treatment using \u003cstrong\u003eworkshop-made DuzJam Wax\u003c\/strong\u003e, adding protection, structure and that slightly battered waxed finish that will only get better with use.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThen comes the leather.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe use \u003cstrong\u003eheavyweight Italian leather hide\u003c\/strong\u003e throughout, including the oversized front pocket, smaller rear pocket and leather reinforcement running along the canvas handles. Solid brass hardware finishes the lot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe handle construction is one of our favourite bits. The original heavyweight canvas runs underneath the leather, giving you the strength and structure of canvas with the feel, finish and ageing characteristics of proper leather.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd ageing is very much part of the plan.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ecru canvas will crease, mark and pick up the story of wherever you take it. The wax will move and change. The leather will soften, darken and develop a patina of its own.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIt's not designed to stay looking new. It's designed to end up looking better than new.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe oversized front leather pocket gives you somewhere to chuck the things you don't want disappearing into the bottom of the bag, while a smaller leather pocket on the reverse gives you another easy-access option.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt \u003cstrong\u003e30 litres\u003c\/strong\u003e, there's plenty of room without the ED1 turning into luggage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWork.
